About Dental Education

To get enrolled in an accredited college
There is certain amount of passion needed to become a successful professional in the dental world. One needs to have interest in the various workings of dentistry and have the willingness to learn more about it. But then, only passion alone cannot get you admitted to a dental institute. One of the basic things that you must have to get yourself enrolled in a good college is to secure good grades in high school. Then you will also need to prepare for DAT (Dental Aptitude Test). Once you qualify this entrance test you can easily get absorbed by a dental school.


Scope of dental education
The dental industry is one of the most booming industries in today's world. A lot of people these days are getting interested in the field of dentistry as there is a wide scope of making lucrative careers in this arena. Dental education is not all about becoming a dentist. The dental industry is huge with a wide range of choices for selecting different subjects and professions. From dental health and hygiene to cosmetic dentistry there is a vast range of choices in between to select from.

Course curriculum
Where general dental education is concerned, it comprises non clinical studies for the first two years and clinical training for the last two years. After graduating from a dental school, you will be awarded the DDS degree which is the abbreviation for Doctor of Dental Surgery. This will make you legally eligible for practicing dental procedures. The residency programs in the dental school can be of different types. You can choose from general residency programs or special programs like orthodontics, pedidontics or periodontics. For specialization in any of these fields, you will need to enroll yourself into another dental school, after getting a DDS degree.
